Westleigh v Belper Away

Long away day but at least a great pitch to play on once there. The game started fast with Belper pushing hard with a striker who really could hit a ball. Soon they were in front with a nice goal. Westleigh though got straight on the attack and a great pass out from the back to Josh had Westleigh on the attack. Many chances in the D but in the End, Josh got the tap in. Great pressure , in other games we wouldn’t have been so aggressive. This would carry on with lots of pressure in the Belper D but not the goals deserved. With the Defence strong and the middle passing well Westleigh were in control. Belper still had a threat - their young players were superb. Great skill and better passing linking with the powerful striker. Then, in a good strong tackle from Jake the striker went down. Never nice to see anyone getting injured and it took some time for him to leave.
With one of their stronger players off, Westleigh carried on pushing and got the well-deserved 2nd when Dave found Ali and he found the net. See it out now to half time. The umpire put up the signal for 2 mins so game management time. 7 minutes later with us all confused, one umpire had not taken the long injury break.
Second half, Belper came out with more energy better passing and Westleigh were poor to react. Poor tackles from Ryan and Ali had them sent off so we spent most of the half defending. At last, the pressure for Belper got their 2nd goal after Westleigh didn’t react to marking their key play maker. Not that Dave didn’t inform players to push onto him. A great ball in a deflection beat the ever-steady Jim. Time to get back into the match which Westleigh did and with a short corner won Ryan had a chance to make amends for the marking. This he did with a lovely drag flick. Now time to stick to a plan keep the ball. No one showed this better than Josh, who with minutes left ran the ball on a great angle to the corner and kept it there till the whistle blew.
Great result since beating Belper 6 2 at home they had risen to 2nd in the league. Team all played great and very nice to all stay after into the club house. Great banter hope to see that more
