Westleigh U12s in action

Westleigh U12s in action

Joseph Milligan27 Feb 2019 - 07:30

A good run out in preparation for the County Cup

Westleigh Under 12s boys were in action on Sunday 24th Februrary, in the county development league. Expectations were high with a strong squad selected for the occasion. The squad was made stronger when as we turned up we noticed a caravan parked up and out popped Samuel Leake fresh returning from holiday especially for the event.

As always we seem to get Ashby A first game but with a strong warm up the team hoped all would be ready. Sadly some players were still a little asleep, which gave Ashby two easy goals. Westleigh got back into it from a penalty corner. A second goal followed when Samuel performed a great smash into the bottom corner. However this fightback lead to a rallying by Ashby, who's players made two perfect strikes into the bottom corners to win the game 4-2.

Next up, Loughborough Town. This turned out to be a very even game and but a failed clearance led to their first goal. This rallied Westleigh however, who came back stronger and finished the better team. A Hollywood strike again from Samuel on his reverse high into the net brought us level and Westleigh pushed for the winner. It never came, but the 1-1 draw seemed fair with both teams having strong periods.

The final game of the day was Ashby B. This was a dominant display but the Westleigh team with the game mainly one way traffic. What capped this performance was that Westleigh made sure the dominance turned into goals. Rilley, as always, running the show through the middle got his reward by the slotting home after a lovely 1-2 with Samuel. Then brother Reagan also got in the act with a nice slap goal. When we thought it couldn't get better it did with a great early smash from Finlay's which rocketed into a defender's stick to deflect past the impressive Ashby Goal Keeper, who made many fine saves during the game. The final score 4-0 to Westleigh and a game well won. Lots of subs were used in this last game to give time for new players having there first U12s games.

Two week wait know for the county champs where, if the mistakes are cut out, Westleigh have a good chance to progress to the next round.
