Westleigh Junior Tournament

Westleigh's turn to host!

Schools and Youth tournament - 29th January.

It was Westleigh’s turn to host the junior mini hockey with lots of teams entered leading to lots of schedules to sort. The day started with U8s with 10 teams meaning 5 pitches to setup and pop-up goals to build leading to some confused teenagers. Games started bang on 9.30 with Ryan and Silke running the games. All the players were having a great time with loads of goals being scored. What was also great is Westleigh had 5 junior umpires who did a great job. 8s finished - it was a frantic 20 mins collecting in all the cones , moving goals ready for the U10s. Again, great support from all the junior leaders in making this happen.

U10s with 7 teams entered showed the work put in by clubs with some great hockey from all teams. Westleigh had great possession but not so many goals. Solomon really came out as the leader in the team but all played fantastic. All games were very close for all clubs which was great. These events are grass roots and no one wants a negative experience.

Last up U12s with 4 teams playing leading to a very easy round robin with lots of pitch time. Again, all games were very close. Westleigh did very well but should have scored more goals. William , Jake and Albie all wanting to walk the ball into the goal. Work for Dave at training. Special note for Sam who was quiet for most of the time but did fantastically well. He needed to make a save and being so young fantastic shouting at his defence.

We were also blessed with great weather. 4.5hrs of hockey played with everyone going home with smiles. Big thankyou to parents for getting all the players there and great support. Biggest thankyou and shows the Westleigh at its best is the effort from the Junior Leaders Jess, Joshua , Ewan, Finlay and Jonathan.
