With the Olympics on this summer and Hockey being shown on TV it was the perfect time for Westleigh to put on their hockey camps. The Club was delighted to welcome over 100 children over two days, many of whom were new to hockey. Perhaps the next Sam Ward or Maddie Hinch could be amongst these youngsters!

The Westleigh Camps were also part of the Great Britain Hockey Initiative; Pick up a Stick Day, encouraging clubs to engage with the community and introduce hockey to children of all ages and abilities.

Lots of fun was had over the two days and the weather was fantastic! Many different exercises were put on by the fantastic coaching staff including Goalkeeper try outs, specialist shooting drills and even a tug of war! Special mention to the young leaders who also helped out and did a great job.

To carry on the theme of bring more children into hockey Westleigh are also offering free hockey sessions on Sundays during August, 10:00-12:00 so we hope to many new players down who enjoyed the camps!

Westleigh will be running more hockey camps in the future and our junior training times from September will be Tuesdays 6:30pm 7:30pm and Sundays 10:00am – 12:00pm.
