Leicester Westleigh Hockey Club are delighted to announce that Ali Lewis will be joining the junior coaching team with immediate effect. Ali Lewis has a very strong coaching pedigree being an England Hockey Level 2 coach, and holds a Masters in Coaching from Birmingham University. Ali has previously coached at top hockey organisations, including being 1st team coach at West Bridgford, Nottingham Trent University and Leicestershire.
Ali already coaches the Men’s 1st and 2nd Teams for Westleigh and has been gradually becoming involved with the juniors as well. The Club have now made the arrangement official and Ali will be running Elite Skill Sessions with the Juniors on Tuesdays and running 2 hour skills and gameplay sessions on Sundays for the Under 12s and Under 14s.

Head Coach Dave Dytham stated “The ability to break out into smaller groups for some dedicated skills sessions will be a great addition to the current coaching we can offer the juniors at Westleigh. Ali Lewis has extremely strong coaching credentials and has played the game at a very high level. This experience will not only benefit the juniors but also the other coaches at the Club.”

This appointment comes at a good time for the juniors with over 100 children signed up and playing hockey at Westleigh with the children engaged in fixtures and tournaments across the midlands. In addition to Ali Lewis, Westleigh have three other England Hockey Level 2 qualified coaches with several other coaches working towards this qualification. The overall roster of coaches and helpers at Westleigh is over 40 people including specialist Goalkeeper coaches meaning that we have great ratios of coaches to juniors at all our sessions providing some top quality coaching.

Westleigh are a very inclusive hockey club catering for all ages and abilities in the junior section but the Club is also very competitive with juniors in the various County Squads and Talent Academies and the junior teams qualifying regularly for the Midlands In2 Hockey Competitions.
