Westleigh Junior Fixtures Against Beeston

Beeston Hockey Fixtures

The final tournament of the year saw Westleigh juniors take on the mighty Beeston at the Nottingham Hockey Centre. It is always a treat to visit Beeston with 6 hockey pitches a café and a shop and not a grain of sand in sight!

The U8s had a fun warm up to kick things off then Beeston brought 6 of their older players over for an hour of matches on a big pitch. The action was intense with lots of hard tackling from both sides, Beeston even had their own mini Goalkeeper which was very cute! Both sides played some good hockey over the hour and Westleigh players did a great job against their older counterparts scoring some text book goals from the training ground- well done!

Lots of matches awaited the Westleigh U10s who showed up in force with two girls U10s teams and one boys U10 team. The girls played three games against Beeston A, B and C team. All the games were very close with the girls trying extremely hard. Many chances were created but unfortunately not many goals were scored until the final game where Westleigh managed to beat Beeston 4-0 - a fantastic result to end on. The Beeston coaches were very impressed with our girls, so much so that they want to arrange another fixture in the New Year.

The boys faced a tougher test on paper as the Westleigh team were made up of year 4 boys only (except for the GK). Last time they played Beeston boys at U10s they lost 7-1. You would never have thought this though as within the first minute of the match Westleigh went 1-0 with a tomahawk shot finding the top corner of the goal. Another goal followed quickly and Westleigh closed the game out for a comfortable 2-0 win against Beeston B team. The next match was against the Beeston A team, very big year 5 boys and the size and skill showed with Westleigh going down 4-0 but not without a fight. The next game was against the Beeston B team again and it proved another good game for Westleigh winning 3-1. The result of the day came in the final game however where Westleigh managed to draw 0-0 with the Beeston A team in a display of resolute defending with the boys putting everything on the line including some great saves from the Goal Keeper!
Thanks for all the parents supporting from the sidelines, with so many games all happening at once there was a lot to keep up with and without the coaches and helpers and help from the parents we could never do this, so thanks! Thanks also to Beeston for being fantastic hosts and we look forwards to playing them again next year.
